Impressive bumper winner is a Cheltenham festival doubt due to injury

Weatherbys Champion Bumper favourite Malone Road has met with a setback and is a doubt for the Cheltenham Festival.

While the injury is not career-threatening at least, trainer Gordon Elliott admits it will be a race against time to get the exciting four-year-old back for this season’s spring meetings.

Owned by Cheveley Park Stud, he has created a huge impression in his two bumpers to date – winning by an aggregate of 16 lengths.

“Malone Road has had a setback,” said Elliott.

“He has a knee injury. It’s not career-threatening, but if we can get him back for Cheltenham or Punchestown this season that would be it.

“We’ll have to wait and see.”
