A LORRY carrying horses has overturned on the M50 motorway in south Dublin this evening, causing traffic disruption.

The condition of the horses on board is believed to be okay from initial reports and the driver of the vehicle is reported to be uninjured.

The blue MAN lorry lay on its side while horses and handlers were standing nearby. The incident happened around 6.30pm.

The emergency services are at the scene and are awaiting a crane to help with the overturned lorry.

The incident occurred near Junction 12 of the south bound lanes of the M50, which would be between the Tallaght exit (Junction 11) heading in the direction of Ballinteer/Sandyford/Leopardstown.

All motorists are being asked to avoid this area until the motorway re-opens.
