ITBA clarifies yearling sales health certificate position

THE Irish Thoroughbred Breeders’ Association has issued a short statement to clarify the situation regarding health certification for yearlings going to the sales this autumn.

The statement reads: “As a result of the delay to the introduction of new EU animal health regulations, it has been confirmed by the Irish and UK Departments of Agriculture that thoroughbred horses sent to the UK from Ireland for sale at Tattersalls or Goffs UK can be exported back to Ireland using valid/in date EIA and EVA certificates from the Irish Equine Centre [IEC].

“The IEC and the ITBA continue to actively lobby for IEC certificates to be accepted for horses re-exported to other EU countries.

“If sending samples for testing to the IEC please note that the EIA Coggins and EVA tests has a minimum turnaround time of three working days.

“Please contact the Virology Unit at the IEC on 045 866266 if you have any queries.”
