Short break for Colin Keane

CHAMPION flat jockey Colin Keane is not riding this weekend as he is recovering from a sprained wrist. He rode a winner at Roscommon on Monday evening but has not ridden since.

The IHRB senior medical officer Dr Jennifer Pugh reported: “Thankfully, it’s nothing serious. Colin sprained his wrist and needs a couple of days off to recover but is expected to be back next week.”

Keane left Roscommon three winners ahead of Billy Lee in the jockeys’ table and the score will remains 69-66 this weekend as Lee was riding in York this week and is on duty in Deauville on Sunday, when he rides Rosscarbery in a Group 1 race.

Death of Lady Mimi Manton

LADY Mimi Manton, twin sister of John Magnier’s mother Evie Stockwell, has died. She was 97.

In 2018 the sisters shared a special moment together in the winner’s enclosure at Newmarket after Fairyland won the Group 1 Cheveley Park Stakes in Mrs Stockwell’s colours.

Lady Mimi had horses in training with Hugo Palmer and Richard Fahey, and had a winner at Haydock earlier this month. In 2016 her colours were carried by the listed race winner We Are Ninety, who she named to mark the milestone age reached by herself and her sister.

Her husband, the former Jockey Club senior steward Lord Manton, died in 2003.

Arc plan for Westover

WESTOVER will not run in the Doncaster St Leger and instead target the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe. The Irish Derby winner has not raced since disappointing connections in the King George at Ascot last month, when he got worked up before the start and then raced far too freely before weakening badly.

Juddmonte racing manager Barry Mahon told ITV Racing: “He’s in very good form. He’s having a break and is in good nick. I’d say the next time you’ll see him would be the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe.”

Frankie Dettori has picked up the ride on last year’s Arc winner Torquator Tasso for his next appearance in the 152nd Grosser Preis von Baden on September 4th – a race he won on the way to ParisLongchamp glory 12 months ago.

Rossa Ryan splits from Amo

ROSSA Ryan has revealed that he will no longer be riding as the number one jockey to owners Amo Racing Ltd.

The Galway jockey has been a regular sight in the purple silks of Kia Joorabchian’s burgeoning racing operation and picked up many big prizes along the way including Group 2 honours for Go Bears Go in last year’s Railway Stakes and most recently aboard Royal Ascot runner-up Persian Force when landing the July Stakes at Newmarket.

However, Ryan’s name did not appear on the racecard against Richard Hannon’s colt for his Group 1 assignment in Deauville’s Darley Prix Morny, with James Doyle taking the reins.

Ryan told ITV Racing: “Sadly me and Amo have departed our own ways. Kia and all the team there have been great to me and I can only be thankful for what they offered me and they took my career to a new level and I wish them the best of luck.”
