Register now for ITM Irish Stallion Trail

REGISTRATIONS are now open for the Irish Thoroughbred Marketing (ITM) Irish Stallion Trail, which will take place on Friday, January 14th and Saturday, January 15th. Over 25 stallion farms are set to participate in the Trail, which is now in its eighth year.

The Trail offers breeders, racing professionals, and racing fans the opportunity to view some of the world’s leading flat and National Hunt stallions at no charge. Participants are simply asked to register which studs they intend to visit via the ITM website.

    WEATHERBYS has just launched a website devoted to National Hunt Stallions. The nhstallions.co.uk site contains a wide range of pedigree, progeny and statistical data on over 120 stallions from across Ireland, Britain and France for the 2022 season. As part of the Weatherbys National Hunt Stallion Book package, it is the ultimate online guide specifically for National Hunt stallions.

  • New role for Teddy Grimthorpe

    TEDDY Grimthorpe has been appointed chairman of the National Stud in Newmarket. The recently retired racing manager for Juddmonte takes up the role in the new year.

    Racing suspended due to equine deaths

    LAUREL Park in Maryland, USA, has suspended racing on its new dirt track following reports of seven equine deaths and other injuries to horses who raced there in recent weeks. The racetrack’s owners issued a statement to say: “While racing is suspended, the Maryland Thoroughbred Horsemen’s Association and the Maryland Jockey Club are working with industry experts to analyse surface composition and maintenance procedures directed at the safest possible racing surface.”

    Australian jockey drowns in night swim

    CHRIS Caserta, a 26-year-old jockey in Australia, drowned while swimming in the ocean on the Gold Coast this week. Caserta was swimming with a female track worker who was saved by bystanders but they were unable to rescue Caserta. After a 34-hour search, his body was found on Friday morning.

    Robbie Power hoping for all-clear

    ROBBIE Power hopes to be back in action by Christmas after recovering from a catalogue of injuries - which include a broken hip, nose and cheekbone, and torn arm tendons - sustained during a fall at Tramore last month. The jockey said: “The hip was the slow one and I’m just waiting on seeing a specialist on December 8th. Hopefully he’ll give me the all-clear.”
