Gordon Lord Byron is set to bid for his first victory of the season in the Group 3 Renaissance Stakes at Naas this Sunday.

Tom Hogan’s admirable ten-year-old will be making a quick return to action following at trip to Prague last weekend where he finished fifth in the EJC Leram Million and is reported to have come out of that race in good shape.

“He’s come back from Prague in good form. He ate up when he got back and seems well in himself so if everything continues to go right with him over the next few days the plan would be for him to run and Billy Lee will ride him,” stated Hogan.

“He needs good ground to be at his best these days. Unfortunately it rained in Prague and the ground got a little loose on top so he couldn’t get any traction. Hopefully it will stay dry for the rest of the week,” added the trainer.

Even though Gordon Lord Byron has yet to win this season he has posted a number of good efforts in defeat having chased home Expert Eye in last month’s Group 3 City Of York Stakes as well as filling the runner-up spot in Phoenix Sprint Stakes at the Curragh.

Also on Sunday’s card Tipperary-based trainer Paddy Twomey will bid for his biggest success to date when he saddles Foxtrot Liv in the Group 3 Weld Park Stakes.

Twomey chose to bypass Newmarket this week in favour of the Group 3 Weld Park Stakes at Naas. The daughter of Foxwedge was an impressive winner of a Curragh maiden early last month and then stepped up in grade to finish an excellent head second in the Listed Ballylinch Stud Irish EBF Ingabelle Stakes at Leopardstown on Irish Champions Weekend.

“She’s come out of Leopardstown in good form and the plan is to head to Naas on Sunday,” said Twomey.

“We had the option of heading to Newmarket for the Rockfel Stakes but we decided to keep her at home for this. It’s going to be another step up in class for her but she’s progressed with every run and hopefully she’ll give another good account of herself on Sunday,” added the trainer.
