THE eventing world has been left reeling from the news that the hugely popular Camphire International Horse Trials set for July 26th-29th will now not take place this summer. The end of July fixture was heading into its ninth year, but in a statement issued by the event director Paul Brady, it has been revealed that finances are to blame.

As Brady explained: “It is with regret that the Organising Committee have taken the very difficult decision to cancel this year’s event. A core element of our budget over the past seven years has been the hosting grants from both Horse Sport Ireland and Eventing Ireland. We have recently received notification that there will be no Horse Sport Ireland hosting grant this year and there has been a significant reduction in the grant from Eventing Ireland. The annual levies to both bodies has increased over the last number of years.”
