IN last week’s edition we published an article under the heading ‘Liquidator expected for Clifden Mart’. This has led to some concern among Connemara breeders and vendors about the viability of the company which operates the sales in Clifden.

The Irish Field is happy to clarify the situation concerning the liquidation of Connemara Livestock Sales Ltd, a company that ceased trading in early 2016 and has not operated the Clifden mart since that time. The directors of the company that now operates the pony and livestock mart in Clifden are happy to confirm that the company is a profitable, solvent company with no debt.

Clifden Mart has been operating for more than 25 years and has a very strong relationship with its customers. The mart has a well-deserved reputation nationally and internationally for the sale of Connemara ponies all over the world.

We are happy to clarify that Clifden Mart is not in liquidation and continues to operate as normal.

The mart is managed by Padraic Heanue, who is a strong supporter of the Connemara pony sector, and he is keen to assure vendors and purchasers that the mart will continue to play an important role is promoting and growing an important local and national industry.
