TOMORROW’S Bold Lad Handicap at the Curragh could be next for the Andy Slattery-trained Cityman following his latest success in a useful five-furlong handicap. This son of Slade Power has progressed steadily since making his first appearance of the year at Dundalk in January, and he produced his best effort yet under the trainer’s son, Andy, to make almost all the running. The 8/1 shot, who is owned by Michael Quinlan, defeated the English raider Only Spoofing by a length and three-quarters to register the third triumph of his career.

Gary Carroll ended the day with a double which began with a success for Early Call (20/1) in the sprint handicap over an extended five furlongs. Michael Mulvany’s charge tends to reserve his best for this venue, and despite not getting the clearest of runs he pounced late on to edge out Tie A Yellowribbon by a neck. Mulvany trains the winner for his brother Laurence and indicated that the son of Tough As Nails could head to the sales at some stage.
