At first glance, Saturday’s Derby at Epsom produced a perfect result. A seventh win in the race for Aidan O’Brien, a well-deserved first win in the famous classic for his long time “number two” jockey Seamie Heffernan, in possibly the final years of his career.

It was another winner for Coolmore, who target this race above all others with their three-year-old colts. Aidan trains them for the Derby, we heard numerous times over the weekend. And Anthony Van Dyck was the top-rated horse and had been one of the winter favourites. It’s simnply what we expect, down through the years.
