IF you’re susceptible to a bit of sporting debate, nothing tends to rile more than an end-of-year sports awards show. I’d imagine that when the judging panels for such awards sign up, the next port of call is to batten down the hatches from the inevitable wave of criticism coming their way.

There is always going to be some people upset that someone was left off a shortlist, not least because there is a ready-made compare and contrast system set up. “Why isn’t X involved, he or she did way more than anyone else on that list?”
