THERE were 30 starters in the Carr & Day & Martin CCI1*-Intro class but, once they got to the front following the dressage, Ireland’s Sian Coleman and her own Kilroe Frolic proved uncatchable.

The Co Cork combination posted the only sub 30-penalty score before the ground jury of Portugal’s Anibal Marianito (C) and Ireland’s Joan Ahern (B) and while they remained on 28.8 to the end, their rivals, in the main, picked up additional penalties.

The only other pairing to go double clear within the time was Britain’s Rebecca Scott, riding the ISH gelding Athea Clover Dew (35.1), and they were separated from the winners by Irish Junior rider Godfrey Gibbons and his mother Marie Dunne’s six-year-old ISH mare Milchem Miami whose total of 34.2 included two show jumping time penalties.

While Coleman had one aborted start with Kilroe Frolic last year, the six-year-old Cavalier Land gelding could really be termed a first season entry. He has now competed six times, winning an EI105 at Hillcrest (1) and an EI100 at Punchestown (1). Prior to his appearance at Millstreet, he moved up to EI110 level at Ballindenisk (1) where he finished third, on his dressage score.

Kilroe Frolic was bred in Co Wexford by Sean Barron out of the OBOS Quality 004 mare Malibiues Dancer, a half-sister to the Bonnie Prince gelding Dalsaans Hasty Prince (CCI2*-S) and to the Master Imp gelding Hasty Imp (CCI4*).

There was a wide variety in age and experience of both riders and horses in this class.
