IT was an early morning call for pony riders at Millstreet as the 138 1.10m Young Champion of Ireland Grand Prix Final kicked off on Friday morning. Placed fourth in the Championship in Dublin and second in the qualifer, Robin Carey made no mistake as he rode to victory in this final. Riding Bay Times, he was fastest of the five double clears in 39.31.

Camryn Clarke and Miss Mull were just over a second behind in 40.49 for second. Placed sixth in the championship in Dublin, Stephen Gibbons added to his tally when he delivered a clear with The Hilly Billy in 40.73 for third. Slotting into fourth were Katie Doyle and Tynagh Sunshine, clear in 42.06, ahead of Chloe Hughes Kennedy and Sparkling Boomastasia, clear in 43.76. Matthew Conlon proved that the time could be beaten when he clocked 37.69 with Glenford Clausa but four faults saw him finish sixth.
