I GENERALLY pride myself on being able to remember names, but even I was thrilled that this year married women attending the meeting in the royal enclosure could choose to use their own christian names on their badges, rather than taking the names of their husband.

Being able to read the name badge worn by all attendees in the enclosure has been a great help at times, but this has not always been the case with the ladies present. When the badge simply read, for example, Mrs John Murphy, many were often left scratching their heads and quickly running through the alphabet to come up with a name.
