TALLY-HO Stud was the leading vendor at this week’s Tattersalls October Yearling Sale Book 2 and the Mullingar farm will mark the end of another very busy yearling sales season by sponsoring the featured €50,000 EBF Birdcatcher Premier Nursery at Naas on Sunday.

Trainer Matthew Smith is hoping that his first ever two-year-old winner, Flaming Moon, can make it a season to remember by landing the prestigious six-furlong race.

Flaming Moon won at the second time of asking when taking a Navan maiden earlier this month. Smith said: “He has a nice light weight and it’s a very competitive race but he is a versatile horse who seems to go on any ground and hopefully he can run well.”

The race sponsor, owned by Tony and Anne O’Callaghan, is a permanent feature on the lists of leading consignors at major European sales. Tally-Ho was among the top 10 consignors at the Goffs Orby Sale where it sold a half-brother to Phoenix Of Spain to Shadwell for €400,000.

The stud was second on the list of leading vendors at the Tattersalls Ireland September Yearling Sale and third at the Goffs UK Premier Yearling Sale. At Book 1 of the Tattersalls October Yearling Sale, Tally-Ho sold 12 yearlings for a total of 1.75 million guineas.

But that figure was left behind during this week’s Book 2 Sale when Tally-Ho topped the table by selling 30 yearlings for a total of 1.9 million guineas.

Tally-Ho is also one of Ireland’s leading stallion farms, home to Kodiac, Cotai Glory, Galileo Gold, Kessar, Mehmas and Vadamos. Top sprinter-miler Inns Of Court was recently added to the roster for 2020 and that attractive son of Invincible Spirit is sure to be popular with Irish breeders.

The card also features the €120,000 Foran Equine Irish EBF Auction Series Final.. which has attracted a full field of 16 with three reserves.
