TONY Martin and amateur rider Patrick McGuigan felt the full wrath of the stewards after a running and riding enquiry into the effort of Pyromaniac in the McSweeney Arms Hotel (Q.R.). Pyromaniac finished sixth in the race and the ensuing enquiry resulted in a €2,000 fine for the trainer. The jockey was banned for seven days and Pyromaniac, who was beaten just over nine lengths, was handed a 42 day suspension from racing.

At the conclusion of the enquiry Martin was found to be in breach of Rule 212 having used the racecourse as a schooling ground, while McGuigan fell foul of the same rule for making insufficient effort. In his evidence McGuigan stated that he rode as instructed - giving his mount cover, letting him travel and creep away until the straight, where he was to do his best from thereon.
