AMONG the northern-born jockeys who rode winners in Britain during the period under review were Barry McHugh, Paddy Mathers (who had a double at Ayr on Monday) and Brian Hughes.

The last-named partnered two winners at Hexham on Saturday including The Jam Man who, like Hughes’s first winner, scored by a hard-fought neck from the favourite, Second Time Around, in the near three-mile handicap hurdle.
