THREE local trainers who never mind sending or bringing their horses further afield for success were on the mark between the flags last weekend.

Two of them, Stuart Crawford and Noel Kelly, had winners at Ballingarry while Derrylin’s David Christie was at Inchydoney where Some Man obliged in the open.

There were only two finishers in this three-runner race with just half a length separating the pair at the line. Importantly, the margin was in favour of Ray Nicholas’ Some Man who was recording his seventh success of the campaign and his fifth under Rob James.

This was a fourth run in as many weeks for the nine-year-old Beat Hollow gelding who is three wins clear of his nearest rivals in the race for champion point-to-point horse honours.

In the open at Ballingarry on Saturday, Stamp Your Feet, who runs in Crawford’s own colours, had only a neck to spare over All Hell Let Loose as he followed up his recent Largy success.

The 10-year-old Galileo gelding was ridden by Stephen Connor who has been on board the bay for all three starts for the Larne handler.

Representing Draperstown trainer Noel Kelly, the Orán McGill-partnered Wee Rupert benefitted when the leading Eveningofsummer erred badly at the last in the six-year-old geldings’ maiden at the same Co Tipperary track on Sunday.

Running for the Temple Racing Partnership, the Shirocco gelding was having his third start for Noel having run in three bumpers when trained in his native Britain by Nick Gifford.
