THERE was only one northern meeting last Monday, Ben Arthey sending out the Niall Kelly-ridden Backinthesaddle to land the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle at odds of 10/1.

Having just his sixth career start, the eight-year-old Rudimentary gelding runs for the partnership of Portglenone’s Raymond Scullion and Martin McGrogan who have owned the chesnut for the past three years. Backinthesaddle was trained by Stuart Crawford when second first time out in a Perth bumper in July 2014 and also for his first two outings over hurdles in January 2015.
