RAVENHILL has earned himself a tilt at one of the most valuable prizes of the entire season as he belied a distinct lack of experience to claim the Galway Races Galway Plate Trial Handicap Chase.

This two-and-three-quarter-mile event was one of two races that guarantee their winner a place in the line up for the €300,000 Tote Galway Plate, provided they are in the handicap proper for the Ballybrit spectacular, and that race is now on the agenda for the winner. The lightly raced Ravenhill was making only his third appearance over fences and this was only the 11th start of the nine-year-old’s career, but he looked quite at home under Davy Russell.
