RIVEN Light made serious inroads into the €200,000 purchase price he cost connections when bought at the Arqana Arc Sale in 2015 from trainer Carlos Laffon-Parias when he won the feature at Galway on Tuesday, the Colm Quinn BMW Mile Handicap. The then three-year-old son of Raven’s Pass (Elusive Quality) had won a couple of minor races over nine and 10 furlongs at La Croise-Laroche and Vichy and also put in some good placed efforts at Longchamp, Saint-Cloud and Maisons-Laffitte.

Now with Willie Mullins, he won a maiden hurdle at Thurles on his debut for the trainer last December, having been off the track for 15 months, and his victory this week was his first since then. He is one of six winners from the Trempolino (Sharpen Up) mare Vivacity who showed little ability on the racecourse but fully deserved a chance at stud based on her pedigree. Her other winners include Last Waltz (Danehill Dancer) who was group-placed in Ireland and stakes-placed in the USA in recent years. She was the last of seven foals for Vivacity.
