Sir, - Your piece about auctioning Sir Peter O’Sullevan’s commentary card for Red Rum’s third Grand National (Parrot Mouth, page A20, November 21st issue) reminds me of an O’Sullevan call which was never broadcast nationally, but none the less says much about this extraordinary man.

Many Arkle fans are convinced that Himself’s greatest individual performance came in the Gallaher Gold Cup at Sandown Park in November 1965, when he gave 16lb to Mill House and beat him out of sight and on the bridle. In so doing he smashed the course record by an astounding 17 seconds.
