1.50 Ladbrokes Dublin Chase (Grade 1) 2m 1f 43yds

Captain Guinness: Quality sort on his day and looks to have put last season’s jumping tribulations behind him on the evidence of his two starts this term.

He produced a nice display to account for Andy Dufresne at Naas in November and followed that with a fine third in the Tingle Creek but needs to do better again.

Cash Back: Former Grade 1 runner-up as a novice chaser before suffering a few falls but enjoyed a confidence boosting switch back to hurdles at Clonmel last time when defeating Classic Getaway by 6l. Has the ability to run well but needs a career best to feature prominently.

Chacun Pour Soi: Outstanding two-mile chaser and seeks a third successive victory in this contest. Didn’t run any sort of race on his comeback in the Tingle Creek but is easily forgiven that out-of-character effort and, back at a track that suits him so well, he is unquestionably the one to beat.

Dunvegan: A switch back to two miles has enabled him to realise his early potential and he followed a Grade B handicap chase success at Fairyhouse in late November with a Grade A handicap success back at that track last month.

A revised rating of 156 entitles him to take his chance, but another leap forward is needed as he moves up to this level.

Greanateen: Lively English raider who won the Tingle Creek in December when Chacun Pour Soi was back in fifth and he finished just ½l behind that rival in last season’s Champion Chase.

Found Shishkin much too strong at Kempton over Christmas and if Chacun Pour Soi runs to his best he will have his work cut out, but he still represents a credible threat to the selection.

Verdict

Chacun Pour Soi’s comeback run at Sandown was just too bad to be true. Now that he returns to a track that brings out the best in him he is sure to take all the beating and it will be a huge surprise if he gets turned over.

Greanateen has form to make him a threat to the selection but if the favourite runs to his best everyone else is playing for minor money.
