THE bloodstock industry was dealt a heavy blow this week with the loss of Coolmore Stud’s dual Derby and dual Breeders’ Cup hero High Chaparral (by Sadler’s Wells). He was only 15 and his death was due to a perforated intestine.

A grandson of the Arc-placed Group 2 scorer Kozana (by Kris), whose dam Koblenza (by Hugh Lupus) won the Poule d’Essai des Pouliches in 1969, he has sired 61 individual stakes winners, including 11 Group 1 stars. His best include standouts such as Descarado, Shoot Out, (It’s A) Dundeel, So You Think and Toronado.
