LIMERICK trainer Charles Byrnes was taken aback to discover, after Viking Hoard had come out on top in the Adare Manor Opportunity 80-116 Handicap Hurdle at a very well-attended ladies day, that his former amateur and stable ally Philip O’Brien is the new manager of Killarney racecourse.
“We had great days together and he taught me a bit, too!” was the quip from Byrnes after Kevin Brouder’s mount was pushed out by the Listowel native to beat Veneziano Springs by 15 lengths, with the hot-pot, Epsilon Indi, back in third.
