SATURDAY’s scheduled Eventing Ireland one-day event has become the latest victim of the wet weather, with hosts Michelle and Danny Dulohery confirming its cancellation.

A statement from Eventing Ireland read: “Following the recent wet weather, with more torrential rain forecast this week, Kilguilkey House has regretfully had to make the decision to cancel its event on Saturday 9 April.”

It continued: “As per Rule 3.10, Refund of Entry Fee after an Event Cancellation, a full refund, less any card charges, will apply. Refunds will be made to the credit card from which they were taken.”

Competitors wishing to re-route to Lisgaravan House, scheduled for Sunday, April 10th must enter through www.eventingireland.ie directly, as Eventing Ireland cannot transfer their entries for them.

Entries close for Lisgarvan House at 12 noon today Tuesday, April 5th.

According to Met Eireann, rainfall in the week from March 28th to April 3rd was three times the average at Cork Airport, with 60mm of rain recorded at its weather station there.

Looking ahead, Met Eirean’s outlook for Friday and next weekend is for cool and unsettled weather to continue.

Rain will move gradually in from the Atlantic during Friday and Friday night, turning heavy in places. The weekend will have further showers, or spells of rain at times, but dry intervals also.

The Kilguilkey House one-day event is just the latest in a series of equestrian events to be cancelled due to wet weather.

Last weekend's one-day event at Millstreet was cancelled due to heavy rain forecast, while theAssociation of Irish Riding Clubs (AIRC) National Hunter Trial Championships, scheduled to take place next Sunday, April 10th, at Flowerhill Equestrian Centre in Co Galway, has also been cancelled.

The Ward Union, Kilmoganny Foxhounds, Muskerry and Bel Air have all been forced to postpone hunter trials in the past fortnight, while the hunter trials at Clonshire Equestrian in Co Limerick last Sunday was also abandoned on the morning of the competition.

Competitors are advised to check with event organisers before travelling to ensure competitions are still running.
