A KERRY Bog Pony won the Cotter Cup at the Cork summer show, presented by Kitty Cotter and the late Billy Cotter, for the best of the three Native Breeds – the Irish Draught, the Connemara Pony and the Kerry Bog Pony. The winning pony was a 10-year-old mare Caher Queen, owned by Maurice O’Sullivan from Ventry who travelled to Cork to take part in the Kerry Bog Pony Class. She was bred by Tim Dennehy from Castle Gregory, Co Kerry, and is by Caher Flood out of an unrecorded mare.

The two championship judges, Wexford’s Walter Kent and Britain’s Ellen Walton took a considerable amount of time to decide on the outcome of the championship and they also selected a second Kerry Bog Pony as reserve champion.
