IRISH rider Jonty Evans and the Irish Sport Horse Cooley Rorkes Drift, have made it through to the Olympic eventing individual final, which takes place in Rio at 6pm this Tuesday.

A superb clear show jumping round this afternoon from the pair saw them move up three places to 13th on the individual standings, comfortably inside the top 25 who now go forward to contest for individual medals.

Evans lies on a score of 64.6 and although a podium finish is realistically out of his grasp, as scores so far are carried forward, a top 10 finish is a real possibility if he can produce another clear round.

The Irish Sport Horse Mighty Nice lies just one place outside the medals with American rider Phillip Dutton, while another Irish Sport Horse, Paulank Brockagh, is in sixth place with Australia's Sam Griffiths.

The Irish team have finished the eventing competition in eighth place overall of 13 nations. A clear round from Jonty Evans was matched by another brilliant clear from Clare Abbott and the Irish Sport Horse Euro Prince, while Mark Kyle and Jemilla finished with eight faults.

France are the new Olympic eventing champions, while Germany took the silver medal and Australia claimed the bronze. Mark Kyle has finished in 33rd place on the individual standings with Clare Abbott three places further back in 36th.
