THE 52nd International Conference of Horseracing Authorities convened in Paris on Monday, with delegates from almost every horseracing nation across the globe represented. Subjects covered included a briefing on the International Federation of Horseracing Authorities strategic plan, diversity, wagering, gene doping, the health, safety and welfare of jockeys, and a session on rules harmonisation.

One of the highlights of the day was the issue of jockey’s welfare and retiring IHRB senior medical officer Dr Adrian McGoldrick, along with Drs Giles Warrington and Ciara Losty, presented compelling evidence of the difficulties facing the profession, and the impact it is having on mental health. The session was chaired by IHRB chief executive officer Denis Egan.
