JEREMYS Joy caused a major upset when shrugging off a lengthy absence and an even longer losing run to land the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Connacht Oaks Fillies Handicap at Roscommon.

Keith Clarke's mare had shown very little in a pair of maiden hurdles in the spring and had not registered a win since April last year, so was sent off a 25/1 chance for this test.

Held up last by Robbie Downey, she confounded the form book with a strong run in the straight, pulling away in some style in the closing stages to beat Byron Beauty by three and three-quarter lengths.

Ball Girl looks a filly with a bright future after landing the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Median Auction Fillies Maiden.

Ger Lyons' charge was sent off the even-money favourite after a promising debut at Gowran and soon had the race wrapped up in the straight, pulling clear before tiring late on under Colin Keane, eventually beating Himmah by a length and three-quarters.

Lyons said: "It's horrible ground and she's learned nothing. She's dead honest and he kept it simple. She got very tired being out alone in front.

"We are in the winners' race at the Curragh this weekend. I thought we had to have an entry in it as it's a 30-grand race.

"We'll see how she comes out. The plan was that was just to be a piece of work to her tonight but the ground might have made it more difficult. We still have that as an option.

"We won't be in a rush stepping her up in trip. He (Colin Keane) said you would have no problem bringing her back in trip."

Lyons and Keane made it a double when Cannonball (9/4) justified favouritism in the final race on the card, the 10-furlong Railway Bar Race. The pair won by two and three-quarter lengths from the Jessica Harrington-trained Red Label.
