IRISH eventing rider Jim Newsam has taken the top prize in Sunday's featured Horse Sport Ireland CCI3* at Ballindenisk International Horse Trials in Co Cork.

Riding his own 16-year-old gelding Magennis, Newsam finished on a score of 38.8 after adding just 1.2 time penalties to his dressage score of 33.6.

British riders filled the remaining places on the podium, with Emily Parker finishing second with Cryptonite, and Simon Grieve third with Drumbilla Metro.

The Eventing Ireland CCI2* saw Galway’s Cathal Daniels return to the saddle just days after his return from the World Equestrian Games where he collected a team silver medal.

Daniels guided LEB Lias Jewel to second place in Ballindenisk behind British winner Beanie Sturgis with Catch Me 51.
