THE TRI Equestrian Interschools got underway on a windy last Saturday morning at Killossery Lodge Stud with the novice individual class running first.

It was Lilly Sullivan and Killags Royal Ace for Scoil Dara Kilcock going home with first place on the day. Taking second was Oisin Phelan from Colaiste Lorcain with Pepper Belle. Chloe Hanlon for Donabate Community College rode Royal Mastermind into third place, while Ruby Cullen Kavanagh from Athy Model School rode Shallfords Poppy to fourth. Harry McNally from Cistercian College Roscrea slotted in to fifth, ahead of Clodagh Reilly from St. Peter’s College Dunboyne with Shakespeare.

The novice team competition only had one team finishing on zero faults which was Loreto Wexford who took first place. Amy Griffith (Starlight Empress), Aoife Crean (Clogorrows Sally), Cora Finn (Shakespeares Romeo Montague) and Aoife Griffith (WNDA Toby) made up the team. Kilkenny College took second place while St. Peters College Dunboyne slotted into third. Colaiste Chraobh Abhann finished in fourth and Newbridge College took fifth place.

In the EII individual qualifier Yasmin Murray and Atlantic Coltaire for Dunshaughlin CC took home the winners’ prize. The Second qualifying slot went to Aoife Griffith on Toby. Newbridge College student Ellen O’Neill with Newcocks Jack took the third qualifying slot, while Sarah Boyce Donohoe from Ard Scoil Rathangan and Claire Nester from Newbridge College took the two remaining places in the line-up.

Competitive jump-off

The open team competition had three teams through to the jump-off. First in to jump for Ashbourne Community School was Hannah Lynam riding Owenriff River who jumped clear in 44.21, while team mate Saoirse Kiernan rode Milly to a clear in 47.45. Their combined total was good enough to take the winner’s prize.

East Glendalough rider Anna Morrissey on Shergar Rose rode a fast clear in 35.79, while Sarah Curry on Ashwood Chuisle Lady picked up four faults in a time of 41.17, slotting them into second place. Third place went to St Josephs Rochfortbridge with Hannah Madden and Nicole Brennan finishing in a combined time of 81.62, just picking up eight faults. The final spot went to Gorey Community School.

The open individual winner was Colaiste Bhride Carnew student Sophie Wilson with Lunasa Cruise. Second place went to Wesley College student Emily Crawford with LGS Safari, while Sophie Dooley on Dignified Fiasco slotted into third. Taking fourth place was Hannah O’Neill with Drummin Pretty Lady from Colaiste Bhride Carnew. The final places went to Cocobelle Manning on Fortunate Clover (St Gerard’s Bray) and Toby O’Leary (St. Michael’s College) on ESI Annaghmore.

The HSI individual qualifier winner was Muckross Park representative Sophie Dooley riding Dignified Fiasco. Leeland Burtenshaw from Ashbourne Community School took the runner-up slot with Future Sky Trend, while third place went to Holly Spencer on Mischa B, and Aimee Walsh riding Carnabay Micky slotted into fourth. The final places went to St Gerard’s Cocobelle Manning on Fortunate Clover and Colaiste Bhride Carnew student Sophie Wilson with Lunasa Cruise.

The action moves this weekend just down the road to Broadmeadow Equestrian Centre, Bullstown, Ashbourne.
