KILDARE show jumper Niall Talbot put in a solid performance to take third place in the three-star 1.50m Grand Prix at Oliva in Spain last Sunday.

Riding the 13-year-old FTS Elliot (Cicero Z Van Paemel x Lancelot), who is owned by the rider and Nicola FitzGibbon, Talbot was one of nine riders who booked their place in the jump-off where he posted a second clear in 34.56 to take third spot and close to €8,000 in prize money.

Victory went to Spain’s Mariano Martinez Bastida and Belano Vd Wijnhoeve Z, who stopped the clock in a time of 34.56, ahead of Belgium’s Lieven Devos in second place with Inca’s Big Think (0/0 37.29).

Ribbons for McGunniess

Also doing well in Spain, albeit at the different venue of the Mediterranean Equestrian Tour, was Aisling McGuinness who picked up a host of good results. On Thursday, riding the Donal Buckley-bred Kilderrys Joint Venture (Russel x Cruising), she claimed victory in the three-star Gold 1.30m speed. The combination galloped home in a time of 28.94, over a second faster than her closest rival, Belgium’s Mathieu Guery.

The pair also won the Bronze 1.30m tour the previous week when they clocked the winning time clear in 56.99.
