SHANE Sweetnam was victorious in last Thursday’s $25,000 Hagyard Lexington Classic in Kentucky, USA, before the show cancelled the rest of the show on Saturday and the upcoming USEF Pony Finals at the venue due to positive cases of Covid-19 onsite.
Some 51 combinations started in the 1.50m class, which was switched to a two-phase competition in order to comply with regulations. Just 16 combinations made it through to the second round and, from six clear rounds, Sweetnam broke the beam in 30.75 seconds aboard Hunters Conlypso II, a 12-year-old Hanoverian gelding owned by the Dacantos Group, to earn €7,500. New Zealand’s Sharn Wordley took the runner-up spot with Esmee (0/0 31.21).
