THERE was one group race in France last weekend and it went to another son of Shamardal in Subway Dancer, who won the Group 2 Prix du Conseil de Paris in ParisLongchamp by a length and three quarters from Edisa and Silverwave. It was the seven-year-old’s first win in seven starts this season but he had finished third behind Cracksman and Crystal Ocean in the Group 1 Qipco British Champions Stakes last autumn.

The Czech-trained, Irish-bred gelding, ridden by Radek Koplik, was always well placed behind the leading Silverwave and he took over in the straight and stayed on to beat one of the French favourites, the three-year-old Aga Khan-owned filly Edisa, in a very heavy ground.
