SLIGO show jumper Richard Howley won two classes at the two-star show in Harthill, Bolesworth last weekend. Both victories came aboard HK Horses and Sarah Borthwick’s 15-year-old gelding Chinook who was having his first international outing since February 2021.

The pair raced to victory in Wednesday’s 1.40m two-phase class which saw a huge 99 combinations start. From 41 double-clear rounds, they were the fastest in 33.28 second to earn €1,175. They pipped George Whitaker into second place with Peanut. Anthony Condon finished fifth with the eight-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare Creevyquinn Pearl (VDL Cardento x VDL Corland), bred by Stephen and Eilish Reilly.

Another ISH – the 12-year-old Ronnie Hollinger-bred Creevagh Carisma (Camiro de Haar Z) – filled fourth place under Britain’s Annabel Shields.

Howley and Chinook then won Thursday’s 1.40m two-phase from another startlist of 93 when they were clear in 25.14 seconds to pick up €1,700. Shane Breen finished fourth aboard Z7 Regal Don, just ahead of Jessica Burke in fifth with Inpulss.

Burke then picked up a win of her own on Sunday when guiding Louisa Church’s nine-year-old mare Inpulss to victory in the 1.35m jump-off. One of 17 clears, they saw off the UAE’s Ali Hamad Al Kirbi by fractions of a second. Shane Breen slotted into fifth with Z7 Regal Don.

Aisling Byrne was in action in the one-star division and she finished sixth in Sunday’s 1.15m two-phase riding her own 11-year-old mare Wellview Lucy (Wellview Cedric x Maltstriker) who was bred by Pat Williams.

Victory in the two-star Grand Prix at the venue went to Britain’s Carmen Edwards with Happy Valerie. He was the best of five double-clear rounds. Richard Howley finished ninth with Fame when picking up four faults against the clock.
