BRITAIN’S world number one Oliver Townend set a world record at Burgham International Horse Trials, the first international held in Britain this year, for the highest number of international eventing classes ever won at a single event in the modern era, with all four wins coming aboard Irish horses.

The biggest victory came in Saturday’s feature AW Jenkinson-sponsored CCI4*-S with Ballaghmor Class, by Courage II, bred by Noel Hickey. The pair led after dressage on a score of 21.4 before adding 0.8 time penalties when clear over the show jumps, and a further two seconds across the country to finish on 24.2 penalties.
