RICHARD Howley led an Irish one-two in the two-star Grand Prix of Bonheiden, Belgium, last Saturday. Continuing his good run of form, the Sligo rider won the 1.45m feature class aboard Arlo de Blondel, beating Galway’s Jessica Burke into second place with African Affair.

The two Irish riders were among six clears in the first round from a start list of 57. Against the clock, just three managed to leave all the fences standing and England-based Howley was fastest of the lot with his own and Sarah Borthwick’s 11-year-old French-bred gelding, breaking the beam in 31.66 seconds to earn just over €8,000.
