SLIGO’s Richard Howley led an Irish one-two in the two-star Grand Prix at Sentower Park in Belgium, last Sunday. Riding his own and Sarah Borthwick’s 10-year-old gelding Arlo de Blondel, he beat Offaly’s Darragh Kenny into second place.
From a huge class of 80 starters, 18 combinations made it through the jump-off round, where half of those produced a second clear round. Howley had just five hundredths of a second to spare over Kenny when breaking the beam in 43.31 seconds. Kenny was riding Vlock Show Stables’ talented nine-year-old stallion Chic Chic and finished second in 42.85. Chic Chic was competed for the last three years by Galway’s Stephen Moore, who also rides for Vlock Show Stables.
