Hadley on winning roll

FOR the second weekend in a row, Sven Hadley was winning on the international circuit in Belgium. He opened his campaign in Lier, Belgium, with victory in Thursday’s five- and six-year-old class on his home-bred Irish Sport Horse stallion HSH Harper du Seigneur. In a huge class of 90 starters, they were the best of 55 double-clear rounds. They also won Saturday’s young horse class.

In the two-star division, Hadley won Saturday’s 1.35m aboard James Joyce’s Garryduff Jar of Hearts, a 10-year-old ISH by Zandeur who was bred by Oliver Conway. The pair were the fastest of 18 clears in 56.90 seconds. The gelding had earlier finished second in the first 1.35m of the show, and Hadley also finished second in Sunday’s two-phase 1.40m with his own Uidam (Luidam x Cavalier Royale).

Champion jockey scores international win

THREE-time British champion flat jockey Oisin Murphy scored his ever first international show jumping win in Oliva, Spain, last Saturday. The Cork native was crowned champion jockey again in 2021 and is spending his down time riding show jumping horses and getting help from his friend and Irish international show jumper Richard Howley.

He guided Medusa van de Koolsdries to win the one-star 1.30m Accumulator. The horse, previously produced to four-star level by Nicole Pavitt, is one of three new horses Murphy has bought for himself to compete.

Howley was also competing at the venue and finished runner-up in Saturday’s three-star 1.45m aboard Victor when double clear in 37.20, behind French winner Harold Boisset (0/0 36.62).
