THE Co Kilkenny-based British international event rider Nicky Roncoroni undertook a short but successful trip to England last month with four young Irish Sport Horse geldings.

From Chris Bartles’ Yorkshire Riding Centre, she competed at three venues in six days starting at Hambleton District Show where Paul Douglas’s ABC Harley Carel won the four-year-old section of the Burghley young event horse qualifier by 12 marks. The Harlequin du Carel gelding led from the outset and won the final gallop phase in front of his Co Tyrone owner who had exhibited the Patrick Kehoe-bred grey to finish fourth in the three-year-old potential event horse championship at the Dublin Horse Show last August.
