NEWRY’s Eoin Gallagher won his first international Grand Prix last weekend at the two-star show at Chard Equestrian in England, on a day that saw four Irish riders finish in the top six.

Gallagher, who works at Oakingham Stud in England, guided the 11-year-old Dutch-bred stallion Faltic HB (Baltic VDL x Concorde) to victory in the hugely competitive 20-horse jump-off. Some 10 combinations managed to produce another clear round against the clock and, third to go in the jump-off, Gallagher was the fastest of those, breaking the beam in 40.26 seconds to earn €8,900.
