GREG Broderick won his first five-star Grand Prix in Gijon, Spain, last week aboard Kerry McCahill’s Westbrook.

The Tipperary man’s closet place to victory previously was second in the five-star Grand Prix in Barcelona aboard his Rio Olympic mount, MHS Going Global, in 2016. He rode the 11-year-old Westbrook in Sunday’s feature 1.60m class at the Nations Cup show and was one of six clears in the opening round. A total of 12 went through to the jump-off, and five completed with double clear rounds.
