KILKENNY Jack Ryan won two three-star class in Sharjah, UAE, last weekend.

The young rider, who was part of the five-star winning Irish team in Abu Dhabi last month, won aboard Claire Inglis’ 13-year-old mare Jule van den Tinnenpot.

Their first win came in Friday’s 1.30m Table A; they raced to victory in 50.83 seconds, with almost two seconds to spare over UAE runner-up Salim Khamis

Al Suwaidi with Cimberly 23 (0/ 52.27). in third place for the home nation was Omar Abdul Aziz Al Marzooqi who rode the Mary Nevin-bred nine-year-old Irish Sport Horse mare Cancun (Boswell Mr Heartbreaker x KEC Maximum Joe).

Ryan’s second win with the mare came in Sunday’s 1.30m two-phase where they were the fastest of 13 double-clear rounds in 27.05 seconds.

Jule van den Tinnenpot was previously ridden by Michael Duffy and his partner Amy Inglis for a long period of time. Tipperary’s Trevor Breen slotted into fifth place with Toyger (0/0 30.35).

Breen third in Grand Prix

Shane Breen finished third in the three-star Grand Prix at the venue with his own nine-year-old gelding Vistogrand.

The Tipperary native, who has enjoyed a great campaign in the UAE so far winning a five-star Grand Prix and a Nations Cup, picked up four faults in the first round but made it through to the jump-off as part of the top 25%, where he then produced one of just three clears against the clock in 37.76 seconds to slot into third place and earn almost €8,000.

Arlo de Blondel

Victory went to Germany’s Nicola Pohl with Arlo de Blondel, the former top ride of Ireland’s Richard Howley.

They were the better of two double clears in 36.83, ahead of Dutchman Kevin Jochems in second with Quatinka (0/0 37.50).
