Dalton third in two-star Grand Prix

KILKENNY’S Ivan Dalton finished third in the two-star Grand Prix in Kronenberg, The Netherlands last Saturday. Riding Nick Zilles’ nine-year-old gelding Ex Ranger HH Z, Dalton was among 10 clears in the first round of the 1.45m class. Against the clock, he broke the beam in 49.12 seconds to earn €3,800. Victory went to Dutchman Mel Thijssen with Cartolana 2 (0/0 46.02).

Earlier in the day, Dalton, based at Butler Court Stables in Belgium, was runner-up in the 1.45m jump-off class with the John McLaughlin-bred Lincourt Luidam (Luidam x Cavalier Royale). The 10-year-old gelding posted one four double clears in 43.01 seconds, just slower than the winner, Finland’s Eveliina Talvio and Glamour (0/0 41.18). Lincourt Luidam was also second in Thursday’s 1.40m two-phase when double clear in 31.03 seconds. Co Louth’s Kevin Thornton finished third in Saturday’s seven-year-old final with his own Champions League.

Three-star win for Chawke

LAOIS show jumper James Chawke won a three-star 1.45m in Vancouver, Canada last Wednesday with Howard du Seigneur. The nine-year-old chesnut stallion, owned by Ramsay Equestrian Inc., was the best of eight clear rounds in 68.29 seconds to earn €9,400. Kerry’s Brian Cournane finished in eighth place with Vittorio 12.

Kerins runner-up

AT the Major League Show Jumping tour in Rockwood, Canada last weekend was Sligo’s Darragh Kerins who was runner-up in Friday’s 1.50m Table A aboard Eve Jobs’ Valentino Tuiliere. The pair were clear in 57.57 seconds, less than a second slower than American winner Kent Farrington with Austria 2 (0/ 57.18). Meath’s Nicky Galligan finished fourth with Unique Star (0/ 63.90).
