TWO-time USA Olympic team gold medallist McLain Ward won his third five-star Grand Prix in two weeks when topping the $401,000 Lugano Diamonds Grand Prix at the Winter Equestrian Festival last Saturday night, just pipping Ireland’s Capt. Brian Cournane into second place.

Tokyo 2020 course designer Santiago Varela designed the track, over which just six of the starting 40 managed to navigate with a clear in round one. Ireland were triple handed, represented by Cournane, Darragh Kenny and Daniel Coyle.
