BERTRAM Allen recorded Ireland’s best result at the five-star World Cup show in Zurich, Switzerland, when he finished on the podium in third place in Friday night’s 1.60m Longines Grand Prix.

Riding Ballywalter Bloodstock’s Gin Chin van het Lindenhof (Chin Chin x Calido I), Allen was one of seven combinations clear in the first round. He posted another clear against the clock with the consistent 12-year-old gelding in a time of 37.37 seconds, slotting him into provisional second place behind the leader Luca Maria Moneta of Italy.
