I’M all dressed up and nowhere to go,” was how Kildare saddler Tom Berney summed up the present situation of hunting through the Covid-19 pandemic. He was referring to the sport he loves, hunting, rather than the day job of running Ireland’s premier saddlers. As well as hunting all over the country on every spare day he can get away from the shop, Tom is amateur whipper-in for the Carlow Farmers. His hunters were never as fit and he can’t wait until December 1st when hopefully hunting can restart, even if it has to be in a fairly restrained fashion.
