THE South County Dublin Harriers don’t hang about, hosting their opening meet in September. They have a very active junior hunt section complete with their own hunt ball, and they had a healthy following with about 50 mounted followers out on the day at Gerry O’Malley’s Batterstown Inn in Co Meath.

James Norton’s book, The History of the South County Dublin Hunt, launched by former Taoiseach Charles J. Haughey in 1991, is a comprehensive record with an extensive archive of photos. It has always been a popular hunt that attracted many followers from Dublin City and the suburbs, and quite a number of politicians, including former Taoiseach Liam Cosgrave, and his father, President WT Cosgrave who were frequent followers.
