WHILE The Irish Field almanac didn’t list Wednesday as a major equestrian date in the barony of Duhallow, it was recognised as such, or at least that is how it appeared in Liscarroll with over 70 mounted and surely a multiple of that on foot. But meets in Liscarroll are always special. This small north Cork village could be looked on as the spiritual home of Duhallow.

Their 45 couple of Old English are kennelled just up the road at Rossanarney in a modern purpose built kennels. They moved there about 20 seasons ago from their previous home just outside Mallow. I remember with particular pleasure my last day in Liscarroll about four seasons ago when I hunted with my daughter Joan, who was out on her good coloured horse.
